GRANDFILM was first founded in 2014 as a film distributor in Nuremberg and a few years later as a production company in Frankfurt. Our focus is on international auteur cinema. Our distribution company is dedicated to award-winning films by Lav Diaz, Pedro Costa, Maria Speth, Nadav Lapid, Carla Simón, Christoph Hochhäusler, Alice Diop, and many others—all filmmakers who not only engage with the world they live in, but also seek new formal approaches. In this sense, it is only logical that our first co-production is Laura Citarella's TRENQUE LAUQUEN, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival in 2022 (Orizonti) and was voted best film of 2023 by Cahiers du Cinema. We are currently co-producing AFONSOS SMILE by João Pedro Rodrigues in pre-production and developing further feature film projects with German and international filmmakers.
